How to begin Home Churching:

1. Invite other believers to your home. It does not have to be on Sunday, but that probably is the day most people do not work, and therefore are available.
2. Share food together. You can furnish the food, or ask everyone to bring something. It does not take a banquet, just food all can eat together.
3. Have the time centered on the Word of God. Read, study, and ask questions of each other. If someone is a teacher, they might be able to add something at certain times, as an insight. Do not allow lecture style study, but interactive study. Rely on the Holy Spirit as you guide.
4. Share a time of Communion together. Communion means talking to God and to each other. It is sharing Bread and Wine together, to remember what Jesus did for us. The example of how to do this is in the Word of God. Jesus, the Word made flesh, wants to commune with us. God helps us to be of one mind together, and with Him, through communion.
5. Let God lead you. All of the things a church should do are NOT listed in this Guide to Home Churching.
6. Consider the following:

  • Don’t imitate a church you have been attending. Study God’s Word to see what you should
    be doing at “church”.

  • Invite only believers.

  • Witness to unbelievers, and when they are Born Again, also invite them.

  • Do not pay anyone to do God’s work. If they have a need, you might be called to
    contribute to their need.

  • Do not allow a “hierarchy” to develop. Leaders are servants, not in charge of anything. Jesus is the only Leader. Build His kingdom, not your kingdom.

  • Do not do weekly worship. Worship is a way of life. Worship constantly. Prostrate yourself and worship Him, as the Word directs.

  • All have something to contribute to the Church. No titles-just functions.

  • Do not rely on dependence upon others, but interdependence.

  • Do not allow children to be separated from the adults. Do not allow programs. Stick to the Word.

  • Go from appointing pastors, teachers, etc, to recognizing them. Pastors, etc, are raised up,
    not appointed or called.

  • Do not build buildings, but build up the kingdom. Do not get caught up in the idea of earthly kingdoms.

  • Refrain from using the word “church” as it is commonly used (a building) perhaps
using the words “body of Christ” which consists of all of the believers.

  • Don’t use programs, but study and prayer.

  • If there is disagreement, pray, humble yourself, and look for the answer in the Word of God.

  • Don’t be surprised if you are persecuted by others-often those that rely on buildings and
tithe collecting, for they probably will mock or scoff at you.

  • A major problem of the mainstream church is the tithes, appointed “leadership” and buildings;
Along with these things is the desire for earthly glory, wealth, position, money, luxury, pomp, power, and pride. Avoid this carefully.

  • A Church of God is not there to reform the world, but mostly to grow closer to the God
of their Salvation, and to preach the Word to the lost.  The Gospel of Jesus is not comfortable. It is Good News, but only because it rescues men from the Fires of Hell. If the Gospel allows men to remain comfortable, it is not fulfilling its role.

  • Give to the poor, and those in need, if God directs.
